Newborn, Baby and Maternity Photography

From the moment a child is born, they change and grow really fast. If you can get your baby in for portraits in the first 10 days you'll get portraits that can melt your heart. Of course any time is a great time because as your children grow, and even as you grow older, things change and its important to create portraits on which your memories can hang and be remembered years from now.

Personal and Family Portraits

Whether to create artistic decor for your home which will be treasured for years to come, or to create gifts and keepsakes for relatives in far away lands, personal and family portraits are important. As one quote goes: "A birth certificate shows you were born, a death certificate shows you died, but a photo album shows you lived."

Standard vs Professional Head Shots

On the left is a 'standard' photo taken with a high level camera and flash. On the right is what happens when lighting and posing is used to bring out your best while minimizing those things you wouldn't want emphasized. Professional photography is more than just the camera used, its the the experience and knowledge to make you look the way people would remember you, not the way a camera would capture your likeness.

About us (short version)

Calgary Photographer Studio owner and chief photographer Neil Speers is the Chairman of the local chapter of the PPOC and did his first paid photo shoot at the age of 16 - which would have been in the mid '70s.

He truly loves when a client comes in and says something like "I'm the least photogenic person in Calgary." Those are the clients he can most easily show they have an inner photogenic person who just needs to be released. "Being photogenic," Neil explains, "Has nothing to do with looks. You've probably noticed some top models aren't that attractive. What they have is the attitude to project their emotions to the camera." He continues "When you were two, you were very photogenic. You ran around and looked very cute. By the time you were three you became self aware - you realized photos of 'of you' and then school came along and you got your school photos back. I'm pretty sure school photos have ruined more people's self esteem than any fashion magazine ever could." Neil concludes that "Being non-photogenic is a learned attitude...and if you can learn it, you can un-learn it."
